Inner Fire District Concert

Inner Fire District was founded in Burlington, Vermont in 2006. The band performs a genre-defying music combining Yiddish and Balkan folk, intricate original compositions, old revolutionary songs, and whatever else tickles their fancy.

Since the band members are currently scattered around Vermont, Louisiana, New York, and Pennsylvania, we are honored that they have chosen the Hall for one of their occasional reunion appearances.

The historic Union Cooperative Store bakery building, lovingly restored as the Rise Up Bakery, is hosting its inaugural baking workshop. This is your opportunity to learn to bake the classic Italian focaccia in a genuine wood-fired oven.

The workshop will be led by Randy George, founder of central Vermont's Red Hen Bakery.

The cost for the workshop is $75 per person and only 12 spaces are available.

“For the Love of Pete” – Concert and Singalong celebrating the late Pete Seeger’s 100th birthday

The Primo Maggio festivities continue with a celebration of the 100th anniversary of the birth of the world famous folksinger, the late Pete Seeger.

The concert and sing-along features Anything Goes, the duo of long-time central Vermont musicians Ben Koenig and Mark Greenberg, who will play Pete's favorites, both the songs he wrote and the ones he loved. Get ready to sing out!

Tickets are available in advance online or at the door:  $12 or $10 for seniors, students, and union members.

Global Labor Film Festival 2019 —”The Organizer”

Continuing our Primo Maggio celebrations with the 2019 Global Labor Film Festival, film historian Rick Winston will present “The Organizer” staring Marcello Mastroianni as a labor activist involved in a turn-of-the-twentieth-century textile factory strike in Turin, Italy.

Admission is FREE and open to the public. Light refreshments available.

7:00 pm Bread and Roses, Too Katherine Paterson, award-winning children's author, talks about her young adult historical novel inspired by the picture of children of the 1912 Lawrence textile strikers on the steps of the Old Labor Hall. The book was selected by the Vermont Humanities Council for Vermont Reads 2018.

Union Cooperative Store Bakery Building Reopening as “Rise Up Bakery”

Saturday, December 15, 2018 from 4:00 to 9:00 pm

The Barre Historical Society announces the grand reopening of the Bakery building, exactly 105 years to the day from its first opening.
The restored Bakery building is now ready to bake. The sewer has been connected and the heating and electricity, and all the other amenities have now been installed to complement the wood-fired oven. The Bakery is already to make the baked goods from start to finish—all right on the premises. Let the festivities begin!
