Labor Day 2018 at the Old Labor Hall & Bakery

Monday, September 3, 2:30 - 9:00 pm

With the first phase of the restoration of Barre’s former Union Cooperative Store bakery building nearing completion, bread and music will take center stage at this year’s Labor Day celebration at Barre’s historic Old Labor Hall. 

The festivities will be held in conjunction with the Hall’s participation in the statewide Vermont Reads program and the soft opening of the bakery building in its new incarnation as the Rise Up Bakery .

All events are free and open to the public.

2:30 to 4:00  Fun activities for families

4:00 to 5:00 Special Labor Day program celebrating the Bread & Roses Strike and the renovation of the Bakery

5:00 to 5:30  Visit to Rise Up bakery

7:00 pm  Presentation - "Solidarity Forever: Songs of Unions and Labor"

La Soirée Sucrée 2018 — Celebrating Barre’s Quebecois Heritage

This year again, as part of the Barre Heritage Festival, the Old Labor Hall is celebrating Barre's French Canadian heritage with Soirée Sucrée 2018 in honor of the Barre Historical Society's late president Chet Briggs.

The evening, the perfect combination of sweet eats and sweet sounds, is divided into three exciting components—all for one low price.

Labor Film Night presents “PRIDE”

Pride is an award winning film about the unlikely alliance between striking miners and the gay and lesbian community in Britain in the 1980s.

Based on a true story set during the miners’ strike of 1984 in Thatcher’s Britain, the film is based on the story of a group of gay activists working to help support the striking miners — despite the fact that the miners aren’t exactly thrilled by the prospect of throwing in their lot with gays.

This is your chance to hear Larry Hanks and Deborah Robins in concert at the Old Labor Hall on the New England leg of their 2018 Road to Obscurity Tour. You will hear "OLD AMERICAN SONGS from Old American Songsters!"

Larry Hanks and Deborah Robins don’t try to complicate a song. They don’t add frills and trills and needless grace notes. Instead, they choose great old songs and sing them in a straightforward way that gets right to the essence of the music.

2018 Global Labor Film Festival – “Harlan County, USA”

For the sixth year, the Old Labor Hall adds Barre, VT, to the worldwide list of cities participating in the 2018 Global Labor Film Festival (held each May by the Labor Film Database).

This year we are screening the classic Harlan County, USA, the first feature-length documentary by legendary filmmaker Barbara Kopple. The film tells the story of the epic 973 coal miners' strike against Duke Power's Eastover Mining Company in Harlan County, Kentucky.

For Primo Maggio 2018, the Socialist Labor Party Hall continues the tradition of Primo Maggio commemorations begun by the founders of the Hall with the combination of food, fun, and education favored in the early days of the Hall.
